The Horror convention DAYS OF THE DEAD, getting its start in Indianapolis in 2011, has now branched over the past few years to not only just include Indianapolis but also has branched out to include Chicago, Atlanta, and most recently, Los Angeles on its roster of cities it stops in. One of the key organizers and promoters, Adolfo Dorta, has always been a stand up dude and put on a very refreshing type of horror convention that caters to both the die-hard horror fans who love both the larger names in horror movies and the horror scene, as well as appeasing those that dig the indie horror directors and filmmakers. I also really enjoyed the live music and bands that performed at last years convention in Chicago at the Schaumburg Marriot (even though the hotel manager tossed me and a buddy out for being utterly radical and bringing in cans of PBR and drinking it at the Macabre show. Seriously, you let us bring beer in the show, told us not to drink it, and thought we would actually just “sit on” the brewskis? Regardless, the Cerina Vincent look-alike threw our drunk asses out just shortly into Macabre’s murderous metal set of serial killer-themed mayhem) and throwing in interesting panels, live music, and a plethora of guests and various vendors makes for some fun times at a convention. Don’t forget, some wrestlers may show up, too. I always love seeing wrestlers at conventions.
As they did last year at DotD, Jabb Pictures will be presenting the HORROR FILM FEST. It will be playing indie horror films all three days, starting at the 6pm on Friday, 5am on Saturday and Sunday. Since the last movie on Friday starts at midnight and the first program/film starts at 5am the following morning there may not be much “downtime” between movies or shows programmed at the horror film fest so insomniacs will have something to watch almost the entire night and all day during the convention. I always like a convention that has something to do 24/7.
Some of the films highlighted in the weekend line-up as told to me by Jason Hoover (JABB PICTURES) which are a “must watch” amongst all the incredibly talented films submitted are Time To Kill and Pieces of Talent.
“Adam Rehmeier letting us screen THE BUNNY GAME and JONAS as one film is gnarly as fuck. Kudos to DotD for supporting indie horror while other conventions continue to turn a blind eye to the amazing talent in the scene.”
Jason Hoover goes on to say that,
“Give these amazing Filmmakers a chance to win you over. Come in, sit down, even if it’s only for 5 minutes. You won’t be disappointed.”
